فضائل صلة الأرحام
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have relatives with whom I try to keep the ties of kinship but they sever ties with me; and whom I treat kindly but they treat me badly. I am gentle with them but they are rough with me." The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "If you are as you say, it is as if you are feeding them hot ashes, and you will have a supporter against them from Allah as long as you continue to do so."
عن أبي هريرة -رضي الله عنه- أن رجلاً قال: يا رسول الله، إن لي قَرابَة أصِلهم ويقطعوني، وأحسن إليهم ويُسيئُون إليَّ، وأحْلَمُ عنهم ويجهلون عليَّ، فقال: «لئن كنت كما قلت، فكأنما تُسِفُّهُمْ الْمَلَّ، ولا يزال معك من الله ظهير عليهم ما دمت على ذلك».
شرح الحديث :
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man said to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) that he has relatives with whom he tries to maintain close ties but they sever those ties, and whom he treats well but they treat him badly, and they behave ignorantly and foolishly toward him but he ignores their actions. The Prophet replied that if he is as he says he is then it is as if he is repaying them justly by throwing hot ashes into their mouths, and that a supporter from Allah will always be with him as long as he keeps doing as mentioned. In other words, Allah will grant him victory over them, even if it only occurs in the future. Feeding them hot ashes is a metaphor indicating his victory over them. The person who truly upholds ties with his kin is not the one who repays their kindness with like kindness but is the one who continues to maintain ties with them even when they cut him off and act badly. Such a person is truly the upholder of kinship ties. One has to be patient and expect reward from Allah for bearing the harm of his relatives, neighbors, friends, and any others. This person will continue to receive support from Allah against them and ultimately is the winner while they are the losers.
