المعنى الاصطلاحي

A Murji’ah sect ascribed to Ghassaan al-Koofi. The say that faith consists of knowing of Allah and His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, and that faith increases but does not decrease.

الشرح المختصر

"Al-Ghassaaniyyah" (Ghassanids) is one of the Murji’ah sects who place deeds in a rank subordinate to that of intentions and beliefs, saying that when there is belief, sin does not harm, just as obedience is of no avail when there is disbelief. Some of the prominent beliefs of the "Ghassaaniyyah" are the following: 1. They say that belief is to have knowledge of Allah and His Messenger, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and to acknowledge all that which issues from them in a general, undetailed manner. By generality, they mean that it is permissible to say that Allah, the Exalted, has made Hajj obligatory, but I do not know where the Ka‘bah is… perhaps it is somewhere other than Makkah; or to say that Allah sent Muhammad, but I do not know whether he is the one (who was) in Madinah or not. 2. They say that faith increases and does not decrease.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر
