المعنى الاصطلاحي

Books containing Hadiths that meet the conditions of one of the Hadith compilers, but that are not included in his work.

الشرح المختصر

"Mustadrakaat" (Hadith collection) is a type of Hadith compilation. The author comes to one of the books of the Sunnah containing Hadiths that meet certain conditions and adds to the book a group of Hadiths that meet the same conditions of the original author, who nevertheless did not include them. So, the second author collects such Hadiths in an independent work and call it "Al-Mustadrak" on such-and-such book. There are works of this genera on Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim . These works are useful in: 1. Identifying authentic Hadiths that are not available in authentic collections. 2. Identifying a set of good chains of narrators that can serve as corroborating evidence.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر

''Mustadrakaat" (sing. mustadrakah): something attached to another. "Istidraak": seeking attachment to something.
