personal excuse (عُذَرٌ خَاصّ)

‘excuse’ refers to something that a person cannot carry out as required by Islam without suffering much harm. That it is ‘personal’ means that consideration is given to each individual case, not to the population of a town, nor to a group that share one description, such as merchants, or craftsmen. Thus, illness is an excuse exempting an individual from attending friday and congregational prayers.
