The methodology used by the leading scholars of the early generations, distinguishing them from others who followed different sects and groups, whether these advocated 1) concepts and beliefs related to the major issues of God, man, the universe and life; 2) any intellectual approach to understanding Islam and how to implement it literally and generally; 3) the principles and values they upheld in the face of the challenges they faced in their respective periods; or 4) interaction with events and new developments which took place at the time.
