A group of theologians who remained undecided about the general and imperative formulae. They did not share the majority view that they should be taken at face value, indicating generality and imperative. Instead, they require some indication suggesting that. One scholar who is well known to have maintained this attitude was Abu al-Ḥasan al-AshꜤarī.
