The followers of Zurārah ibn A‘yan (d. 150 A.H.), who claimed that the Attributes of Allah are created and that they are like the attributes of physical bodies. In addition, he went to extremes regarding some Imams (Shiite figures) and deified them.
"Az-Zurāriyyah" is a Shiite sect that follows Zurārah ibn A‘yan, who was the grandson of a Christian priest named Sunsun. They are also called "At-Taymiyyah", and they were established in 145 A.H. The founder was initially a follower of Al-Qat‘iyyah, who believed that ‘Abdullah ibn Ja‘far was "the Imam" (promised Shiite leader); then he left them and moved to Al-Moosawiyyah, who believed that "the Imam" was Moosā ibn Ja‘far ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn ‘Ali ibn Abu Tālib. He used to say that Allah was not All-Knowing, All-Powerful, All-Hearing, and All-Seeing but then created His own knowledge, life, power, will, hearing, and sight. This sect also claims that Allah's Knowledge, Life, Power, Hearing, and Sight are similar to those of the creation and that they are all created like attributes of physical bodies. They also believe that knowledge is axiomatic and that it is not possible for the "Imams" to be ignorant as their knowledge is axiomatic and innate. Whatever others obtain of knowledge through study and acquisition is innate and axiomatic for the "Imams".
