الشرح المختصر
"Kufr asghar" (minor disbelief): Faith is neither valid nor accepted until one fulfills two things implied by the testimony of faith, i.e. saying: "There is none worthy of worship except Allah." These two things are: 1. Submitting to Allah as the only true deity. 2. Avoiding all types of "kufr" (disbelief). "Kufr" is either "akbar" (major) or "asghar" (minor). "Kufr asghar" refers to the sins that the Qur’an and the Sunnah call "kufr" but which are not tantamount to "Kufr akbar". This type of "kufr" may be called ingratitude for the divine blessings or lesser "kufr", such as fighting a fellow Muslim, swearing by other than Allah, or wailing over the dead.
