الفقه أصول الفقه

التعريف :

Camels, cows and sheep slaughtered as offerings on certain prescribed days.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :

A name given to the sacrificial animals that are slaughtered on the days of Eid al-Ad'ha (10th of Dhul-Hijjah), with the intention of drawing closer to Allah, and done in a specifically-legislated way.

الشرح المختصر :

"Ud'hiyah" or "dahiyyah" (sacrificial animal) is the name of the animal - camels, cows, and sheep - that is slaughtered on the day of Eid al-Ad'ha and the three days of "tashreeq" that follow the day of Eid, and not on other than those days. This is done with the intention of performing an act of worship and getting closer to Allah, not with the intention of selling the meat, eating it, offering hospitality to a guest, etc, or done in other than these days.

التعريف اللغوي المختصر :

"Ud'hiyah": a name given to the animal that one slaughters as a sacrifice to Allah. In principle, it is the animal slaughtered on the Day of Nahr (Eid al-Ad'ha; 10th of the lunar month of Dhul-Hijjah).
