Words and sounds that are common among a people and which they use to express themselves. Each environment has its own language.
"Lughah" (language) is the medium used by people to communicate and understand each other. It is composed of specific words and sounds that indicate meanings that are well-known among a group of people or a tribe or a country. World "lughāt" (pl. of lughah) are divided into linguistic families such as African, Asian, European, and others. Each linguistic family includes a number of "lughāt" of similar origin and characteristics. Each "lughah" is ascribed to the people who speak it, as in saying: the "lughah" of the Arabs, and the "lughah" of the non-Arabs. The importance of "lughah" is evident in many aspects: 1. It is a means of expression and a tool for communication and understanding between the individual and the group, and Allah revealed His books and sent His messengers to call their people to the worship of Allah in these "lughāt". 2. It is one of the most distinctive differences between man and other living creatures. 3. It gives a person many opportunities to benefit of his time by listening, speaking, reading, or writing. 4. It is the tool that the individual uses when he tries to convince others during debates, discussions, and exchanges of opinion. 5. Speaking words is easier for people than writing and gesturing.
