The supreme leadership position in a country.
"Imārah" (supreme leadership/presidency) is of two categories: general and specific. - General "imārah": the caliphate or supreme imamate. - Specific "imārah": being in charge of a communal obligation, such as the judiciary, jihad, collecting charities. It could be spatial, such as being in charge of a certain country or province, or temporal, such as being the leader of the pilgrimage, etc.
"Imārah": the work of an emir (a prince), or the land ruled by an emir (an emirate). Other meanings: rulership, presidency, leadership, authority.
An official position giving jurisdiction. It is derived from imrah which implies having authority to rule. The one who undertakes such authority is called amīr, waliy al-amr, amīr al-muʾminīn. [These are titles given to a ruler].
