الشرح المختصر :

"Ahzāb al-Qur’an (sub-parts of the Qur’an): The ‘Uthmāni "mus'hafs" had no divisions, then the people set divisions for the Qur’an. There are two forms of dividing the Qur’an: 1. The division set by the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them: Its form was the grouping of the first three surahs after Sūrat al-Fātihah together, followed by the next five surahs, then the next seven surahs, followed by the next nine surahs, then the next eleven surahs, followed by the next thirteen surahs, and then the part which contains the "mufassal" surahs. 2. The division which is well-known in our time, where the Qur’an is divided into a number of "hizbs" (sub-parts). A "hizb" consists of four "rub‘s" (quarters) and is distinguished by a mark in the "mus'haf", and that is writing the word "hizb" (sub-part) after every four "rub‘s" (quarters). The Qur’an has sixty "hizbs", each part has two "hizbs".
