"Sirāyah" (infection) is the occurrence of complications, either upon the execution of a Shariah punishment, such as cutting a person's finger in retribution, leading to an infection at the amputated spot that extends to the rest of his body, leading to his death; or upon an assault which leads to damaging another part of the body or to death.
"Sirāyah": flowing, spreading. Original meaning: traveling at night. Other meanings: transfer, transitivity.
That the effect of an injury becomes pervasive so as to affect one’s spirit after it has affected one’s body.
