A type of shortening the chain of transmission in relation to one of the main hadith anthologies (relative shortness). This occurs when the hadith is related from the author’s teacher, but through a different route from that of the author. If the shortness is achieved by relating the hadith from the teacher of the author’s teacher, through a different route, this is called ‘superior parity’. It may also be referred to simply as ‘parity’, provided that it is defined, saying: parity with the teacher of the author’s teacher.
