A type of shortening the chain of transmission in relation to one of the main hadith anthologies (relative shortness). This occurs when the hadith is related from the teacher of the author’s teacher, through a different route. This is also called badal or ibdāl. It is also referred to as ‘parity’, provided that it is defined, saying: parity with the teacher of the author’s teacher.
