That a narrator finds a book containing hadiths in the handwriting of a scholar who was not his contemporary, or was his contemporary but he did not meet him, or he met but did not hear him reading these hadiths he found in his handwriting. There is no permission by the scholar for these hadiths to be transmitted from him (i.e. certification). This is rather a weak method of hadith learning.
