A process by which a scholar relates hadiths entered in an anthology of hadiths with a different route of transmission, so that his own chain of transmission converges with that of the author of the anthology at his teacher or an earlier narrator. The condition is that he does not reach a further narrator until he loses a chain taking him to the nearer one, except for a valid reason such as a shorter chain of transmission, or stating an important addition.
