A scholar who is competent to determine the preferred views in his own school of fiqh. He is one who has studied in depth the various views in his own school and how scholars have explained and interpreted them, stating how they explain their apparent differences and points of different understanding. He explains how they draw similarities between cases which initially appear widely different, and distinguish between cases which initially appear very similar.
