A set of doctrines, branching from a religion, that some people invented and agreed upon without having any textual proof to support them.
الشرح المختصر
A "nihlah" is a group of people united by a false creed or by a creed that opposes the creed of the majority. It is, therefore, a synonym of the term "bid`ah" (religious innovation), because the motive for inventing a "nihlah" is personal inclinations and opinions, not divine revelation and legislation.
