"Tahiyyah" (greeting) is one of the ethics that are to be observed when people meet. Greetings differ from one people to another given their different customs and religions. The Islamic greeting is: "Assalāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakātuh." (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you). Its shortest form is: "Assalāmu ‘alaykum". (Peace be with you)
"Tahiyyah": invocation of "hayah" (life) for someone. It also means kingdom. So, "at-tahiyyātu lillah" (greetings are due to Allah) means: to Allah belong eternity and dominion. It also refers to any word or deed said or done upon meeting between people, by way of honor. Other meanings: veneration, honoring.
