To start doing things with the left hand, the left leg, or the left side.
“Tashāmul” (beginning with the left) is divided into two categories: 1. Praiseworthy “tashāmul”: beginning with the left side in situations where it is recommended to not begin with the right, such as entering the bathroom, leaving the mosque, etc. 2. Blameworthy “tashāmul”: beginning with the left side in good actions and situations, like eating, drinking, entering the mosque, etc.
“Tashāmul”: taking the left side, beginning with the left side. Opposite: “tayāmun” or “tayammun” (beginning with the right side). Derived from “shimāl”, which means the left.
