من موسوعة المصطلحات الإسلامية

المعنى الاصطلاحي

A sect from the Murji'ah that is attributed to Abu Thawbaan ibn Wahm.

الشرح المختصر

"Thawbaaniyyah" is one of the most important sects of Murji'ah. It is attributed to a man called Abu Thawbaan ibn Wahm. Some of their beliefs are: 1. Faith is knowledge and acknowledgment of Allah, His messengers, and everything that the mind considers obligatory to do. Whatever is not considered obligatory to do by the mind, then knowing it is not part of faith. Actions (deeds) are not part of faith. 2. They agree with the "Qadariyyah" in believing that the slave creates his own actions. 3. They claim that the sin does not affect one’s faith, but the sinner will be punished by Allah on the "Siraat" (bridge over Hell) on the Day of Judgment in proportion to his sins.
