المجيد
كلمة (المجيد) في اللغة صيغة مبالغة من المجد، ومعناه لغةً: كرم...
A Kharijite sect that convened in Haroorā, a place close to Kufa.
"Al-Harooriyyah" is a group of Kharijites who opposed ‘Ali ibn Abi Tālib, may Allah be pleased with him. They rebelled against him and called him a disbeliever when he agreed to arbitration between him and Mu‘āwiyah ibn Abu Sufyān, may Allah be pleased with him. They are named after a place known as Haroorā close to Kufa. There, they first gathered and made arbitration when they opposed ‘Ali. They are also called "Ahl-un-Nahrawān" because ‘Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, fought them there. They are also called "Al-Muhakkimah" because they adopted the slogan 'No "hukm" (arbitration) except that of Allah.' Moreover, they are called "An-Nawāsib" because they opposed ‘Ali and those who supported him and dissociated themselves from many of the eminent Companions who fought in Badr and others. Finally, they are also called "Al-Wa‘eediyyah" because they claim that whoever commits a major sin will dwell in Hell forever; hence, they consider his blood and property lawful for them. This name then became general for all those who follow their corrupt doctrine.
"Harooriyyah": an attribution to Haroorā, a village close to Kufa, two miles away therefrom. It was their first gathering place.
