"Ri’āsah" (leadership) means rightfully occupying a place of authority over people in matters related to the religion and the worldly life. It could be established by one of the following courses of action: 1. Being appointed by the ruler who preceded him. 2. By the agreement of Ahl al-‘Aqdi wa al-Hall (decision-makers in the Muslim community), for whoever meets the requirements of assuming the role of the Imam. 3. When there is no Imam, and there arises a man of power whereby he overcomes the people. In such a case, this man's imamate is established and obeying him becomes obligatory, because the purpose is fulfilled by his emergence.
"Ri’āsah": leadership, high esteem, honorable status.
