"Asnām" (idols) are all the things that are worshiped instead of Allah, including statues of animals, humans, symbols of jinn or an angel, or an image of a planet or sun, etc., that is made to be glorified, worshiped, or submitted to with humility. The Arabs had many idols before Islam, including Al-Lāt, Al-‘Uzza, Hubal, Wudd, Suwā‘, Ya‘ooq, Yaghooth, and Nasr.
"Asnām" (sing. sanam): a statue that is carved from wood, silver, or brass and is worshiped. It also means an image that is worshiped. Original meaning: something wicked and foul.
