Removing "hadath" (ritual impurity) or filth, which do not allow one to pray, by using water.
"Tahaarah maa’iyyah" (purification with water) is of two types: 1. "Tahaarah" (purification) to remove "hadath" (ritual impurity): it is either minor "tahaarah", which is ablution, to remove a minor ritual impurity, such as passing urine, or it is major "tahaarah", which is "ghusl" (ritual bath), to remove a major ritual impurity such as "janaabah" (sexual impurity). 2. "Tahaarah" to remove filth: it is done by washing all impurities away from the clothing, the body, or the place with water. The water that must be used in "tahaarah" is the water that is pure in itself and can purify other things.
