A sect that belongs to the Twelver “Raafidah” who believe in the imamate of Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah.
"Al-Karbiyyah" is one of the Twelver "Raafidah" sects. They were called so because they follow a man known as Abu Karb ad-Dareer. They embrace the same beliefs held by the Imaamiyyah Rafidites, like regarding the majority of the Companions as disbelievers, claiming that the Qur’an has been distorted, and believing in the "ghaybah" (occultation), "raj`ah" (return), etc. "Al-Karbiyyah" believe that their imam, Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah, did not die or get killed, yet he would disappear for seventy years; and he lives at Mount Radwa, close to Madinah, where there is a lion on his right side and a tiger on his left protecting him from his enemies. They believe that his sustenance keeps coming to him in the morning and in the evening until the time comes for his emergence. They believe that he is the awaited Mahdi and no imam would come after him. After the passing of the seventy years, however, they tried to persuade their followers to be patient and wait for his coming.
