Matter that has no specific shape or form and that can take any shape or form.
"Hayoola" (hyle [matter]) refers to independent bodies. Or it is said to be prone to taking a physical form and has no actual existence per se without that form. An example is a ring, whose "hayoola" is silver, and its form is well known; and everything we see outside is called the "hayoola" form. Old philosophers divided "hayoola" into four categories: 1. The first "hayoola": This is the matter that has no specific shape or form. 2. The second "hayoola": It is a body having a form. 3. The third "hayoola": It is the body having a qualitative form that has transformed into other forms. An example is wood turning into the form of a bed. 4. The fourth "hayoola": This is when the body, along with two forms, turns into another form. An example is the body organs transforming into the form of the human body
"Hayoola": Greek word that has been Arabized; it means cotton. The ancients used to compare it to clay, because "hayoola" is the origin of all forms, just as cotton is the origin of certain types of clothes. The word refers to the matter, origin, and place.
