"Wasf-ut-talāq" (Qualifying a divorce) is when a husband or his agent adds to the pronouncement of divorce one or more qualifying term that gives another meaning, which could be more general or more specific than the main pronouncement of divorce. This term may take several forms: 1. Describing the divorce with a specific characteristic, such as saying: you are divorced a powerful, permanent, or enduring divorce, etc. 2. Using a superlative adjective when referring to divorce, such as saying: you are divorced with the most terrible, most evil, strongest, biggest, broadest, or longest divorce. 3. Likening the divorce to something formidable, such as saying: you are divorced a mountain-like divorce. 4. Likening the divorce to something insignificant, such as saying: you are divorced a divorce as small as the tip of a needle.
