A cast in Hinduism affiliated to brahma, the God of creation and one of the Hindu triad. They are the wise people who serve as priests, teachers and maintainers of sacred knowledge. They are the best of creation, according to the Hindus as they were created by brahma from his own mouth. They may take whatever they want from their slaves. Their religious rituals include renunciation and self affliction so as to renounce worldly pleasures in order to unite with the deity brahma and become part of his own self.
