A firm command by the Almighty Lawgiver to refrain from a particular action.
"Tahreem" (prohibiting) is one of the five categories of obligatory rulings. It refers to anything forbidden by Allah, the Almighty, and His Messenger, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, or one of them in a categorical and binding manner. A person who abandons something haram by way of compliance shall be rewarded, and the one who engages in it shall be punished and is called a sinner.
"Tahreem": forbidding, banning, prohibiting. Opposite: "ibāhah" (permitting), "idhn" (authorization), "jawāz" (legality).
