الشرح المختصر
"Takhmees" (dividing into five): "Takhmees al-ghaneemah" is dividing the spoils of war into five equal parts; four of them are given to the mujahideen and one fifth is divided once again into five equal parts; one of these parts is for Allah (which is spent to serve the best interests of the Muslims); another part is given to the household of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him; another part is given to the orphans; another part is given to the needy; and the fifth part is given to travelers in a foreign land who need assistance to continue their journey.
