Believing in the good aspect and giving it precedence over the evil one.

الشرح المختصر

"Husn az-zann", or having good expectations, is divided into three categories: First: Having good expectations of Allah, and this is hope in Allah and doing good deeds. Having good expectations of one's Lord is his motivation for doing good deeds, hoping for acceptance and reward from Allah and having confidence in His promise to grant him provision, forgiveness, etc. Second: Having good expectations of people, which means interpreting their words and deeds as being good. Third: Having good expectations of one’s self, which is blameworthy because it prevents one from watching himself perfectly. It is also deceiving because one sees his defects as good qualities and his flaws as perfection. Whoever has good expectations of himself is the most ignorant of himself.
