The different stages that a muḥtasib [i.e. market controller] should follow, taking them in the proper order, according to the status of the muḥtasib in relation to those he supervises. These stages are: getting to know; provision of information; verbal order to refrain; admonition and advice; verbal abuse; to change things with his own hand; a threat of physical punishment; enforcing physical punishment; drawing arms; and finally seeking help and calling in the police.
