Books that compile extra Hadiths and add them to other book or books.
Zawaa'id (additional Hadith compilation) is a type of Hadith compilation that is concerned with collecting Hadiths that are supernumerary to a certain book compared to others. For example, these include the Hadiths that are mentioned in the Musnads and Mu`jams, but are not mentioned in the six major Hadith collections (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan An-Nasaa'i, Sunan At-Tirmidhi and Sunan Ibn Maajah). Additional Hadiths are useful when judging Hadith as Sahih (authentic) or Hasan (sound), and in helping find Prophetic Hadiths not found in the famous collections.
''Zawaa'id'' (sing. zaa'idah): addiitional part, progress, expansion. Opposite: "nawaaqis". "ziyaadah": growing, extension.
