The obeyed master who has numerous fine attributes and to whom all sovereignty belongs in all ways. He is the master who answers people’s prayers and grants what they need. He is the one who neither eats nor drinks, yet gives nourishment to all but himself needs none. The term Ṣamad linguistically means ‘one without a cavity’ and one who gives no discharge. He begets none and was not begotten, and the one who never dies. al-Ṣamad is one of God’s names which may not be given to anyone else.
