major assimilation (الإِدْغَامُ الكَبِير)

التعريف :


This occurs when two consonants, both followed by short vowels and the first is then assimilated into the second. It is called ‘major’ because of its great frequency. For example: ladhahaba bisamꜤihim (2:20) the two consonants may be identical as in the given example, or of similar articulation features, or of close places of articulation.
