المعنى الاصطلاحي
Being conceited and having overconfidence in one's excellence while forgetting to express gratitude to the Bestower of bounties (Allah).
الشرح المختصر
"’Ujb" (vainglory) is a serious problem. It is a form of polytheism, as it associates oneself with Allah in relation to bestowing bounties. A person with self-conceit believes that he no longer needs Allah because he is overconfident of his acts of obedience. One may have "‘ujb" regarding his strength, intellect, wealth, children, status, lineage, etc.

"‘Ujb": joy, happiness and pride in oneself. It is derived from "i‘jāb", which means admiring and applauding.
