التعريف :


To abstain from what is unlawful or unbecoming of words and deeds.

المعنى الاصطلاحي :


Abstaining oneself from unlawful desires; by protecting the private parts from committing what is unlawful and preventing the tongue from slander and so on.

الشرح المختصر :


"‘Iffah" (chastity) is one of the noble traits that prevents one from pursuing the unlawful desires. It is a middle course between excessive indulgence in desires and asceticism or total abstinence from all types of lawful desires. It can be achieved by controlling the heart from pursuing unlawful desires, and preserving the limbs such as the hand, the tongue, the hearing, the eyesight, the private parts from all types of obscenities and vices.

"`Iffah": refraining from committing indecency. Original meaning: scarcity of something. Other meanings: deeming oneself far above something.
