"‘Uluww al-himmah" (willpower/high aspiration) is immense and genuine determination to achieve virtues and good qualities without the slightest acceptance of low and minor matters. It is when one keeps longing to superior and sublime matters as long as they are a possibility. "‘Uluww al-himmah" is particularly required in five occasions: seeking knowledge, worship and uprightness, searching for the truth, "da‘wah" (preaching) to Allah, and jihad for the sake of Allah.
That one does not place personal aims ahead of pleasing God, or place any consideration ahead or instead of him, or barter away God’s pleasure with oneself for any worldly gain.
