A judge who settles disputes between judges, or one who achieved a very high status as a judge and came to be known as chief justice. The first one to be given this title was Abu Yūsuf YaꜤqūb ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥabīb (died 182 AH 798 CE) in the middle of the second century of the Hijri calendar [eighth century], when he became the judge of Baghdad.
