That a narrator states a hadith in a way that is different from how other narrators narrate it. The difference may be in the chain of transmission or in the text. If the narrator is reliable, the hadith is graded as shādhdh, i.e. irregular; and if the narrator is weak, it is munkar, i.e. odd or discarded.
