al-līn elongation (مَدُّ اللِّين)

al-līn elongation (مَدُّ اللِّين)

علوم القرآن

التعريف :

The case of the w and y sounds when they are not followed by a short vowel and preceded by a consonant with the short vowel a. If this occurs in the final word in the utterance, the w and y are treated as ū and ī respectively and elongated in the same way as the accidental elongation for a pause. If the word is in the middle of the utterance, no elongation occurs. However, in the variant recitation of Warsh, through al-Azraq’s route, it is elongated the length of one, two or three times the long vowel ā, as al-bayt alldhī (106: 3).
