Qalqalah: an emphatic plosion when any of the qalqalah sounds is realised, provided that the sound is not followed by a short vowel, either originally in its word or accidentally due to a pause. It has four degrees of strength: 1) that of a doubled sound when it is the final in the utterance, as in bil-ḥaqq (2: 119); 2) the same but the sound is not doubled, as in muḥīṭ (41: 54); 3) the qalqalah sound is in the middle of a word but not followed by a short vowel, as in yajmaꜤu (5: 109); and 4) the qalqalah sound is followed by a short vowel, as in qulūbihim (16: 108).
