Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about giving testimony, and he replied: "Do you see the sun?" The man said: ‘Yes.’ he said: "Give testimony about something like that, otherwise, do not."

This Hadīth shows that if a Muslim wants to give a testimony, he should testify to something that he is certain about and that is as evident as the sun. In this respect, Allah, the Almighty, says: {But only those who testify to the truth [can benefit], and they know} [Sūrat Az-Zukhruf: 86]. So anyone who is not certain about what he will testify to, it is unlawful for him to testify.
