That the explanation of a general, equivocal or open-ended statement of duty is delayed from the time when it is revealed to the time when it is implemented, as the Qur'anic verse: ‘eat of their fruit when they come to fruition, and give (to the poor) what is due to them on harvest day’ (6: 141) this verse was revealed before zakat was made obligatory. When it was, the sunnah explained which types of plants and fruits are liable to zakat and the rates of each, as well as the beneficiaries of zakat.
