To look at something with contempt and to do it in a casual manner.
المعنى الاصطلاحي :
Negligence and belittlement of religion, while being careless about it and about fulfilling its rights.
الشرح المختصر :
“Tahaawun” (belittlement) is not caring enough about what one seeks to attain or avoid. This includes "tahaawun" in avoiding the means that lead to associating partners with Allah, the Almighty, and apostasy like, for instance, praying at graves and building upon them, which is something that Allah has prohibited because it leads to polytheism. Hence, belittling such matters and taking them lightly leave the door wide open to falling into polytheism, we seek refuge in Allah.
