‘illah sounds (حُرُوفُ العِلَّة)

The only sounds that are subject to change and transformation. These are the three vowels, but some scholars add to them the glottal stop which may be transformed into any of the three long vowels. Moreover, the two vowels ū and ī sometimes become ā and sometimes a glottal stop. Other scholars also include the ‘h’ which may be transformed into a glottal stop.
