A phrase limiting the forms of narration, ‘narrated, reported to us’. It is used by a narrator when narrating hadiths which he and his colleagues learnt by the certification method, thus distinguishing these from the ones they learnt by listening to the teacher or reading out to him. It may be used by a single narrator giving himself a higher status, not indicating a group.
