المعنى الاصطلاحي

The four verses of Sūrat-un-Noor that explain the rulings of the "li‘ān" (oath of condemnation), which is sworn by the two spouses, in detail

الشرح المختصر

"Āyāt al-li‘ān" (verses on the oath of condemnation) are the four verses (6, 7, 8 and 9) of Sūrat-un-Noor that detail the rulings of the "li‘ān" (oath of condemnation) sworn by the two spouses. When a husband accuses his wife of adultery and he cannot bring four witnesses, they both swear the "li‘ān" against each other in the way described in these verses. After that, the husband and his wife are eternally separated.
